AI Cocktail Image Generator: 6 Styles, Free to View

Generate photorealistic cocktail images and 5 art styles with AI. Vintage prohibition, neon, watercolor, minimalist, art-deco. 277+ spirit mappings. Free app.

What does a perfect Paper Plane look like? How about a Last Word in 1920s prohibition poster style? Or a Negroni rendered in glowing neon? Or a Daiquiri painted in watercolors?

Home Bar Hero's AI image generator creates stunning cocktail visuals in 6 different styles -- one photorealistic and five artistic -- using Google's Gemini 3 Pro image generation model. Every cocktail in the app gets a professional-quality image. Every spirit bottle gets a product-photography-style rendering. And every image generated is permanently cached so the community only pays once and everyone benefits forever.

You don't need to be an artist or a photographer. The AI handles everything: the glassware, the garnish, the lighting, the composition. You just pick a cocktail, pick a style, and the image appears.

6 Image Styles for Every Cocktail

Home Bar Hero doesn't just generate one generic image per cocktail. The system supports a photorealistic default plus 5 artistic styles, each with its own distinct visual identity.

Photorealistic (Default)

Every cocktail automatically receives a photorealistic image styled as professional food photography. The AI generates images with:

These images look like they came from a professional cocktail photography shoot. They appear automatically on recipe cards, detail pages, community posts, and AI recommendation cards throughout the app.

Vintage 1920s Prohibition Era

Transport any cocktail back to the speakeasy days. The vintage style generates images that look like they belong on a prohibition-era bar poster:

A Sidecar in vintage style looks like it was photographed in a 1920s Parisian cocktail bar. An Old Fashioned gets the smoky, dimly-lit speakeasy treatment.

Neon

Bold, electric, and eye-catching. The neon style wraps cocktails in glowing light:

A Cosmopolitan in neon style practically glows pink off the screen. A Blue Lagoon becomes an electric light show.

Watercolor

Soft, artistic, and painterly. The watercolor style renders cocktails as fine art:

A Lavender Martini in watercolor style looks like a painting you'd hang in your kitchen. A Tequila Sunrise becomes a wash of orange and red flowing into yellow.

Minimalist

Clean lines, simple shapes, modern design. The minimalist style strips cocktails down to their visual essence:

A Martini in minimalist style is iconic -- clean glass shape, olive, crisp lines. A Manhattan becomes an exercise in elegant simplicity.

Art Deco

Geometric, luxurious, and bold. The art-deco style channels the glamour of the 1930s:

A Champagne Cocktail in art-deco style drips with geometric glamour. A French 75 gets the full Jazz Age treatment.

How the AI Image System Works

The image generation pipeline is more sophisticated than a simple text-to-image prompt. Here's what happens behind the scenes.

Cocktail Image Generation

When an image is needed for a cocktail -- whether it's shared to the community, discovered through AI search, or imported from a menu scan -- the system sends Gemini 3 Pro a detailed prompt that includes:

  1. The cocktail name -- so the AI knows what it's making
  2. The description -- flavor profile and character of the drink
  3. The ingredient list -- so colors and proportions are accurate
  4. The glass type -- from 12 glass types in the database (coupe, rocks, highball, Collins, tiki, etc.)
  5. The style directive -- photorealistic studio food photography, or one of the 5 artistic styles

The result is an image that actually looks like the specific cocktail, not a generic "drink in a glass" rendering.

Bottle Image Generation

Every bottle added to your bar also gets an AI-generated image. The system maps 277+ spirit type IDs to descriptive names, so when you add "Hendrick's Gin," the AI knows to generate a London Dry gin bottle with the right shape, color, and style.

Bottle images are rendered in a professional product photography style -- clean background, accurate bottle shape, proper label styling. Brand-specific bottles get enhanced prompts for premium commercial-grade appearance.

The 277+ Spirit Type Mapping System

This is a detail worth highlighting. The image generation system doesn't just know "gin." It knows:

Each mapping feeds a specific, accurate prompt to the AI. A bottle of mezcal joven looks different from a bottle of mezcal reposado. An Islay Scotch bottle looks different from a Highland single malt. The system knows the difference and generates accordingly.

Image Processing Pipeline

Raw AI-generated images go through a processing pipeline before they reach your screen:

  1. Generation -- Gemini 3 Pro creates the base64-encoded image
  2. Storage -- Full-size PNG saved to Firebase Cloud Storage
  3. Thumbnail creation -- Sharp library generates a 128x128 WebP thumbnail at quality 80
  4. Caching -- URLs stored in Firestore for instant future access
  5. Deduplication lock -- a lock system prevents two simultaneous generation requests for the same image

The thumbnail pipeline is critical for performance. Recipe cards and browse lists load the 128x128 thumbnails for speed, while detail pages load the full-size PNG for quality.

Community-Funded Caching: Generate Once, Free Forever

Here's the part that makes the whole system economically brilliant. Every AI-generated image is permanently cached. The first time any user triggers an image for a cocktail or bottle, it costs AI credits. Every user after that gets the same image for free.

This creates a community-funded knowledge base:

Over time, the most popular cocktails and bottles all have cached images. New users joining the app get access to thousands of pre-generated images without spending a single credit. The community has already funded those images through individual generation requests.

No Duplicate Generation

A lock-based deduplication system prevents wasted API calls. If two users request the same image at the same moment, only one generation runs. The second request waits for the first to complete and then uses the cached result.

A background Cloud Function (retryMissingCocktailImages) also sweeps for any failed generations and retries them, ensuring the cache stays complete.

Where Images Appear in the App

AI-generated images aren't tucked away in a gallery. They appear throughout the entire Home Bar Hero experience:

Images are never just decoration. They help you identify cocktails quickly, make the community feed visually engaging, and give your Party Host QR code menu a professional look.

Automatic Generation: You Don't Have to Do Anything

Most image generation in Home Bar Hero happens in the background without any user action:

The only time you'd manually trigger generation is when regenerating an image in the share or twist modals (if you want a fresh take on the visual). Manual regeneration uses AI credits, but viewing any existing image is always free.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does generating images cost AI credits?

Image generation that happens automatically in the background (when sharing recipes, discovering via AI search, or adding bottles) uses credits from the triggering action. Viewing any existing or cached image is always free. Manual regeneration in share/twist modals costs credits. And thanks to community caching, most popular cocktails already have images generated -- so the credit cost often doesn't apply.

Can I choose which art style to generate?

Yes. The stylized image feature lets you select from 5 art styles: vintage 1920s prohibition, neon, watercolor, minimalist, and art-deco. The default photorealistic style generates automatically. Artistic styles are available for cocktails and create shareable, social-media-ready images.

How accurate are the cocktail images?

Very. The generation prompt includes the cocktail name, description, ingredient list, and glass type (from 12 glass types in the database). The AI knows that a Margarita goes in a coupe or rocks glass with a salted rim, that a Mojito is tall and green in a highball, and that a Tiki drink gets the appropriate mug. The 277+ spirit type mappings ensure bottles are equally accurate.

Are the images unique or stock?

Every image is uniquely generated by Gemini 3 Pro for the specific cocktail or bottle. These are not stock photos, not pre-made assets, not filtered photographs. Each one is a fresh AI generation based on the specific drink's characteristics. Two different cocktails will never share the same image.

Can I share the generated images?

The stylized cocktail images are designed to be social-media-ready and shareable. When you toast a cocktail to the community, the image accompanies your post. The art style variations (vintage, neon, watercolor, minimalist, art-deco) are particularly well-suited for sharing.

Every Cocktail Deserves a Great Picture

You spent time building your bar. You spent time learning the recipe. You made the drink. It deserves an image that does it justice.

Home Bar Hero's AI image generator gives every cocktail a professional-quality visual in 6 distinct styles -- automatically, for free, and permanently cached for the entire community. No photography skills required. No stock photo subscriptions. Just beautiful cocktail art, generated on demand.
